Hi there,
This little bird keeps visiting our garden and chirping really loudly and for long periods of time. Is it distressed?
It will sit on the garden fence and above our bedroom window constantly chirping !
We have a cat who occasionally goes outside but the bird takes no notice.
We've had some nice long chats with it...but it's getting kind of annoying now especially when it starts chirping at 5am to wake us up!
Any ideas why it does it? Is it hungry? Is it looking for something? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Phil
That sounds like a Blackbird alarm calling, something is upsetting it
Regards Alan
My photos are on Flickr and Website
It's an upset male Blackbird and it is probably telling you that a cat or something is after it's young.

Yep, That's the middle level alert warning call of a Blackbird. There's a "general anxiety" call which is lower pitched (more of a chook chook chook) and a much more hysterical sounding "PANIC NOW!" call.
The general anxiety call says "There's a predator around here somewhere"
The middle level one says "I see a predator"
And the last says "The predator is after me - SCARPER!"
They're all about warning the family of a possible threat and its level of seriousness. They also inform the predator that (s)he's been sussed.
Every day a little more irate about bird of prey persecution, and I have a cat - Got a problem with that?
Awww thanks everyone, that's really kind of you to respond. :)) So do you think he has a nest nearby? Maybe if I find it I can make sure I'm not disturbing it ?
I'm wondering with it being nesting season if he has chicks that have just left the nest and will be on the floor possibly under bushes and doesn't like the sight of your cat
Could be a nest in our garden somewhere for sure. Doubt it's the cartit rarely goes out. Will have a look around tomorrow. Thanks all :)
Hi John B, I loved your post. You have a way with words.Could not stop laughing!
Hi Amber. I almost got onto the fighter pilot threat warning system analogy but will save it for another occasion......
