We live on a housing exec estate, and this summer all houses and flats are having new rooves. The flat opposite us has had sparrows, great tits and chaffinches nesting in the attic through a gap in the eaves there for many years. They will almost certainly lose thier nests. As work has now progressed to the first house in our row, I've ordered a sparrow terraced nest box from RSPB, I've also bought a couple of single ones from pet shop. I'm slowly providing nests for a lot of migratory and home birds. In April I errected two swallow nest bowls under our balcony, I may need to move one nearer to the wall after they leave again as an attempt was made to line one of them but I think the bird was aiming to build towards wall. I was delighted to see that they'd acknowledged it. I'm hoping to errect my garden bird nest boxes next week to give the soon to be evictees time to check them out. I hope this will help them. I'm also hoping to errect a swift box next spring as I've noticed a lot of them here this year.
Well done naturechild every little helps, birds such as Sparrows are losing their nesting areas due to home improvements..hope you are successful in attracting nesting birds, any photos you have we would love to see them

Yes, well done. If only all the people on your estate would do the same! Good luck with it all.
Cheers, Linda.

Well done Naturechild.
The truth is I'm mad. We are all mad and many are too mad to know the truth.
Yes well done from me too. There has been much talk elsewhere about the effect foreign birds are having on our own birds nesting sites....but we should look at the effect our species is having.....
Cheers Deb
