Just bought a new bag of premium ground mix and was surprised to find the raisins had been thrown out of the tray and left scattered all over the ground. The raisins are usually fought over and disappeared first not rejected. Any idea why?
Perhaps choosing higher fat stuff with it being cold? Eg suet or nuts
A bird in the hand can make an awful mess!
Did you see what threw the raisins out the tray? Blackbirds eat the ones I put out (though mine weren't part of a mix).
This is the third big bag of the same ground mix and i've never had this happen before. There was always a fight to get to the raisins and they were eaten before anything else by the starlings and blackbirds. But this batch both are rejecting them! I watched the starlings pick them up and just spit them out again. I had a good look at them today and they seem quite big and tough like its just a skin so i tried soaking them in water for a while then put them out. Some where eaten but most just left. There really isn't any juicy middle to them even when soaked, could that be why they aren't being eaten the previous ones were much nicer.
