I watched on sunday between 10.30 - 11.30 am and was disappointed in the low numbers of birds. The weather was grey and dismal. Today it is sunny and I have loads of birds, and I have even seen a thrush. Would it be relevant for the birdwatch to ask participants the weather conditions during their watch?
I would think that when the RSPB analyse the data weather conditions may be taken into account maybe using met office data. When inputting BTO and other surveys the weather is entered.
birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,just enjoy it while you can.
Interesting. I agree that weather conditions do appear to affect the count.
We too experienced a noticeable reduction in the number of birds on the days of the survey this year but the very next day a number of starlings and magpies and a pair of chaffinches arrived and over the past 3 days we have had a small flock (20-25 birds) of redwings who have greedily denuded the holly tree of berries.
