I am hoping to buy a new bird feeding station - one of those poles with brackets for feeders. All the ones I have seen, including the RSPB shop, are too short for my needs. I need one that stands high enough out of the ground for the feeders to hang so the bottom of the feeders is at least 6 feet from ground level. The only ones I have seen may be 6 feet high, but the feeders dangle much lower than this when hung from the brackets. Any suggestions please?
Cheers, Linda.

Hi Sparrow,
I bought the Tom Chambers Ultimate recently because I wanted a tall feeding station.
It is very tall, so tall in fact that I had to take one section of the pole out because I couldn't reach the feeders to take them down and fill them! I'm 5' 4" and it states on the box that the pole is 285 cm, whatever that is in English! (OH tells me it is 9' 4" - no wonder I had to take a section out!) It is very sturdy and nicely finished and I am very pleased with it. It even has a stabiliser to help it stay upright. I would definitely recommend it. Let me know if you want any more info or if you would like to see a photo of it in situ.

Hello Sparrow and welcome to the forum. Have a look at the Meripac range. They do ones with additional extension poles so you can get them to the height you want. They have an extensive range, both of bases (for hard ground and soft ground) and tops ( tables or candelabra style arms), so I have added a link below for the company I purchase mine from:-

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Hello Squirrel, and thanks for the welcome. I have had a quick look at the Meripac range and will study it in more detail later. It looks very interesting. Thanks for the link , much appreciated.
You can also buy extension poles for RSPB pole feeder systems - http://shopping.rspb.org.uk/p/BirdAccessories/RSPB_green_garden_pole_extension.htm

Thanks one and all for the welcome and the suggestions.
Does anyone know what the Tom Chambers Ultimate Station is like?
Hi Sarum Bat,
Brilliant! It sounds perfect for me. You have persuaded me to buy one. The height is excellent, and as my husband is over 6 foot it shouldn't be a problem as long as it is stable. I would appreciate a picture of it in situ if it isn't too much trouble.
Many thanks
Glad to be of help and I'm sure you won't be disappointed with it. Are you in a desparate hurry for the pic? It will be dark when I get home this evening but I will be able to do it for you tomorrow morning.

Whenever it is convenient. Thanks very much.

Hi sparrow,
you have had quite a few ideas suggested, may I throw another one in your direction.
I'm over 6ft so I decided to build my own structures, very basic and very cheap to build. The only real cost is dependant on the feeders you want to use.
I know some of the bird feeder packs include feeders but quite a few don't, so bear this in mind when you make your purchase!
This is one of several stations I have in the Garden.
If you want the dimensions and materials used then drop me a message and I will forward them on.
Regards Buzzard
Nature Is Amazing - Let Us Keep It That Way
Wow Buzzard, what a good idea. It even has a handy queueing rail that my sparrows would love. I have three different stations. One of these is the plastic guttering on my shed roof. I have 4 feeders hanging from it at the moment, but it is beginning to get bent, so this is the one I am seeking to replace. Lots to think about.
Regards Linda
Weather dreadful today - wet and windy - photo on hold for a bit!
No worries! Weather is the same here.
Please don't worry about the photo of the bird station.
I decided to get the TC Ultimate, and this afternoon hubby has erected it for me. It looks great and the top is only swaying gently in this awful wind! Hopefully, it will stay that way. You are right, it is very tall, but it has out-foxed the dog, which is what I wanted. She can't reach the feeders or the fat containers and has now given up trying. I can reach to put feeders on, but struggle a bit taking them off. However, I have discovered that I can easily remove the top pole with the candalabra arms and attached feeders, so no problems. (so far!!!)
I just hope the birds like it as much as I do. No takers so far, but it is getting a bit dark and the wind is howling round the garden.
Thanks for your help, and the offer of a photo. I'm very sorry if I inconvenienced you.
