Baby blue tits in trouble?

  • In our camera nest box I can see 9 baby blue tits, approx 1 week old. It seems like mum has gone missing today as I haven't seen her all day. Dad is coming in the box once or twice an hour with small bits of food, but he takes the food back out of the box again without feeding the babies. I am worried about the babies getting cold and not feeding. Can I do anything to help them?

    Thanks

  • All you can do is to make some supplementary food available in the garden, live mealworms ideally. There have been lots of cases of broods failing this spring, this may be the result of low insect availibility as a result of the cool and damp weather.
