We have a lot of swallows nesting in the stables at the livery yard where we keep our horse - over the past few weeks we keep finding dead adult birds in the stables (about 3 - 4 a day!) They look a bit pale (as in their colours are a bit faded) Anyone any idea what is happening to them?
Hi mandy, so I can rule out a couple of things, is it just dead swallows you have been finding?

It doesn't help with an explanation (although potential it could be relevant), but could these actually be fully grown fledged young? I can not thing of anything that would cause the plumage of adults to be pale (and have any relevance at all to their deaths), but fledged juveniles will look like adults but have paler plumage (particularly the red colour on the throat and forehead).
