Hi
I'm pretty sure there was a flock of Waxwings in my front garden this morning, eating red berries from a bush at the bottom of my drive (sorry, don't know what the bush is). They had a distinctive crest on their heads and were a similar size or maybe slightly bigger than a Blackbird.
I just wondered if it was unusual to see Waxwings as far west as Hampshire? The RSPB bird identifier locates them more along the East coast.
Didn't have a chance to get a photo unfortunately.
Thanks.
Sarah

Hi,
Waxwings are smaller than blackbirds, but I'm sure that's what you saw. They aren't often that far West but have been further West than that this year due to the exceptional weather conditions.
Cheers.
Rob
I've seen them for the first time this year. They are about Starling sized and look rather like Starlings when they fly around too. They also make a lovely tinkling, chattering noise hard to describe but if you've heard them you'll know what I mean.

They haven't been to my garden either. Obviously Dottymama lives in a more desirable bit of Hampshire than I do!!!
