unknown bird call.

Hello all,

I am new to the forum, just very curious about a bird that I can hear but unfortunately cannot see. (I am based in Farnborough Hampshire) so certainly lots of trees around, but the bird is unsighted.

Certainly I see all the common garden birds in my garden, but remain totally clueless about this bird that I can hear late evening but unable to spot.

To statisfy my curiosty I went through the common garden birds and nothing comes close, the only thing that sounds similar in pitch and tone and length of call is an "osprey"

Now I know for sure they are very rare, and not seen in the south of england.. just wondered if anyone had any ideas.

I have tried to record the bird, but so tricky to catch such a short bird call.

could be a little owl

Rays suggestion is a good one Little Owl have a couple of calls that might fit.It is worth looking/listening on the RSPB main site.

Thanks guys for the suggestions, I will keep you posted as and when I have some more clues... sadly the "little owl" is not the one.

Possibly a young Tawny Owl food calling?

Sadly not a young tawny owl, will see if I can get a recording.
