Are these tree bumblebee workers or something else
side of a white tailed worker I think
Brown fly poss dung fly but should it be on dung
looks like an Ichneumon fly
a good laugh is better than a tonic
Nice shots Ray.
I agree that's a Dung fly Scathophaga stercoraria. Whenever I see them I always think of the old Monty Python joke. What's brown and sounds like bell ? Dung !
This one was in a Privet hedge. A surprising amount of insect life in there.

Like everyone else I have theories and opinions on lots of things I know b*gger all about.
The ID's on the bees looks good as well - the Tree Bumblebees are very worn though.
The tree bumbles are a new one on me - thanks for the post!
Seriously thinking about trying harder!
Reported a large one on blackberry last year so must have been a queen.
They do seem to be spreading quickly
I thought Ray might be interested in this shot from today.
Wow thanks Galatas. iF thats another insect its caught its something I didn't know, always thought they fed bred and layed eggs on dung.
Funny I saw another on leaves today..
