Female Blackbird or Song Thrush

Answered (verified) This question is answered

Hi all,

It's sunset, everything's very orange-y, and birdie is twisted away and has a some buds and blossom in front. I thought female blackbird when I snapped it, but looking at it more closely on the screen, the spots began to bug me. But then, female blackbirds can be a bit spotty, no?

Cheers

Female Blackbirds can be a bit spotty - but they tend to be darker, especially underneath. Also, this one is singing in the photo which strongly suggests that it is a male.

Is this a cryptic way of telling me it is n fact a male song thrush? :)

    And do females never sing?

Sorry, it wasn't meant to be cryptic - I just forgot to say that it was a Song Thrush.

In most UK bird species females rarely sing (if ever). Notable exceptions are Robin and Cetti's Warbler.
