Please, can anyone identify these geese seen today on the Thames at Henley?
now im probably way way off but could they be manky mallards?

I would say they are a feral variety of domestic mallard duck. Note the two curly tail feathers on top, denoting a drake mallard.

Undoubtedly Mallard ancestry there. With the elongated profile and long bill I suspect that they're the domesticated "Indian Runner" breed.

Thanks for all the suggestions, having done some more research on Google, I think John B's suggestion that they are "Indian Runner Ducks" is right. They are certainly unusual, I wish I'd seen them running as well as swimming!
