Monday's Magic Moment: starling, there's something I need to tell you!
lucinda
I don't know why, but whenever I see a starling I end the encounter with a big grin on my face. Maybe it's because they remind me of a childhood spent listening to their scrabbling around in the loft above my bedroom, attempting to raise a family. Or, maybe it's because of their beautiful...

What better way to fill blog 100 than a pictorial demonstration of three of the things to get out and see during March...oh and a rodent quiz! Apologies for my dodgy pictures but they illustrate the points if nothing else!!! Top spectacle to see must be starling roost! They are still together in huge...

Battling Teenage starlings

Taken in September. The container had held a full "Starling" peanut feeder tube the day before. Counted 17 at one point. Seemed like three pairs of adults the rest young.

Monday's magic moment: murmurs of winter?
Kevin Middleton
Good morning! Bit nippy this weekend wasn't it? Looks like we're winter is catching up with us. So, for today's Monday's magic moment I thought I'd pick one of the true spectacles of this time of year: a starling murmuration. This image is taken in Wiltshire, and, I think, is...

Monday's magic moment: mesmerizing murmuration
lucinda
As leaves start their annual colour change, and the morning air fills my lungs with its chilly edge, there is no denying that autumn is on its way. Not that I mind. In fact, I really look forward to the changing seasons and the promise of wildlife spectacles to come. And this great image of starlings...

Soaked in spring - winners and losers

The last few weeks have been pretty miserable weather wise for most humans in the UK, only the hardiest souls have braved the wet, windy and cold around the The Lodge . Have you braved the elements in the last few weeks, was it worth it? I've tried to get out and about in between showers and it has...

Spectacular starlings

Brian, who oversees the Date with Nature programme from our HQ at The Lodge, went to see the starling Date with Nature at Ham Wall on Sunday with a pal. He had just one word to describe it: "wow!" There were hundreds of people there to witness an amazing spectacle of around 100,000 starlings...

Say "Ahhhhh"
Crumpled
I have known that birds are much more intelligent than many people give them credit for, sparrows using ants as a tool to preen themselves with is not an uncommon task, but I was amazed to see that they have their own dentists too now.

A bird shaped flock of starlings at Gretna
FiBee
The most glorious sight I have ever seen. Immense murmuration of starlings just north of Gretna in Southern Scotland. Amazing. There is also my film on Youtube.... www.youtube.com/heandfi I'm told that the flocks are gathering up there again this year and well worth a visit.

'A Bird in the Palm etc' Starlings feasting on a Cordyline
Ray Sykes
The other day a 'mob' of Starlings descended on our 20 foot Cordyline to feast on the berries (which are more like pale green peas), they come each year. The photo shows a small group of them and was taken through glass so as not to scare them.
