Dave - CH
My second question for the day... Out recently at a local nature reserve, we were very excited to see - what for us was - a new bird of prey. We're used to seeing many birds of prey close up, but the only thing we're any good at identifying are kites, particularly since red kites hang around...

Hen Harrier?
blbrowne
Saw what I identified as a Hen Harrier this afternoon, at Stocks Golf Club outside Albury, Herts. From a distance it looked like a pigeon, but it was unmistakeably a bird of prey, with a hooked beak. Thoughts?

Hi and welcome to the forum, gievn the large size then common buzzard, red kite or marsh harrier are worth considering. Given the timing, shortly before nightfall, could it also be a short-eared owl? Have a look at these species on our bird guide and see if any come close! http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife...

Osprey or Golden Eagle
GothicFairy
I've just got back from visiting the Cairngorms National Park (this was taken 23rd June) and thought I took a photo of an Osprey. On closer inspection it appears to me that it might be a Golden Eagle but would really like a confirmation. I was at the RSPB reserve Loch Ruthven and because another...
