Sorry for the delayed update. Unfortunately it wasn't to be this year but it is still lovely to see and there is always next year. It has also inspired us to put up new and improved nest boxes for next year.
What a shame they didn't nest. They like boxes to be quite low , just four or five feet from the ground. I saw them using nest boxes at Coombes Valley this week.

Like everyone else I have theories and opinions on lots of things I know b*gger all about.
Thank you for the tip. We will have to give it some thought as there are a lot of cats here. Do you know what size entrance hole they would need or are they not fussy?
Lovely photos from your trip to Coomes Valley. Will have to add that to the list of places to visit. We are thinking of going away for a few days next week so will at the area to the list. I'd love to find out where the pecker that visits our feeders nests. Last year we saw the family at the peanuts so they can't be far I wouldn't have thought. We've had a nuthatch and long tailed tit family too. Just blue tits nesting so far but fingers crossed the flycatcher will be back.
Ooo just noticed my original post was featured in the RSPB Wildlife Gardening Tips for June email in the section at the bottom about the forums. What a lovely surprise!
