I am going to put up some nest boxes in my smallish garden and wondered how close together they could be for same and different species or is there some sort of minimum distance.Would love to know!

I am also experimenting this year by converting a couple of boxes and hanging them over the fence with a large hook.They will be placed behind some shrubs and I shall be putting Prikka strips on top of the fence to deter cats and large birds. One box is open fronted (robin or blackbird) and the other with a small hole (wren or blue tit) I already have blue tits in a box on the garage wall where they have sucessfully bred for 3 years,although this year I have changed the box to a 'Woodcrete' type as for the last 2 years when cleaning the box I have found the remains of a couple of chicks.The box is in the same position and the blue tits have already been inside and checing it out!
I have two blue tit boxes in adjacent trees about 10 feet apart. They are both used.
Six feet away from one there is a swift box( under the eaves) presently occupied by sparrows and more pairs nest in the house walls only a foot away. So It is fairly crowded.
You can put sparrows in terraces as they like to nest together.
Availablity of food is key and I always put out live mealworms when there are nestlings, particularly in bad weather.

Seriously though, that is amazing. It's no wonder you need that many feeders in your tree!!! A question if I may:- How do you manage about cleaning them out - with them being that high up?
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

my old house was a three storey high and we had them there as well, :-)
