Female Bluetit strange behaviour
Lisa Twigge-Molecey
Hi Everyone, I have a nestbox with a camera inside and was really excited last week when I saw that a nest had started to be built. However the female has been acting very strangely these last couple of days. She keeps going into the box and removing the nesting, then bringing it back in only to remove...

Great Tits in Nest Box
Accipiter
Hi, I was just sitting in the garden and usually about 5.30 or so the Great Tits return to the nestbox. But the behaviour I have noticed everyday is that the female will enter the nestbox and the male will sit outside calling to her and she responds. After a few minutes the male leaves and heads for...

Re: Blue tit head banging
Woodlander
This is getting curiouser and curiouser. My little Blue is still busy headbanging on the bottom of the nestbox. But now it is stripping off tiny slivers of wood. It takes a lot of effort to get one tiny sliver and then it seems to fly out of the nestbox with it only to return a short time later...

Re: Nest Box
margot
We have a new camera nest box which has been up since January. For the past 2 weeks a blue tit has been arriving at 17.45 and sleeping in it overnight. Initially just on the bare boards. Now, a blue tit has started bringing nesting material in, mainly moss and is industriously pushing it into shape...

Check out our nest box information here and also a book by the BTO called the nestbox guide is worth a look, more details here . Its always worth providing a number of boxes of different designs in various places to give as many birds as possible an opportunity to nest. Our shop gives you an idea...

Hi Fi Apologies for the delay, please have a read of the info i have posted on the thread here which explains the delay in sending out the membership packs, it should give you some answers! Providing a few nesting boxes is a great idea, you may be able to attract a range of species to raise their...

Re: How old is your nestbox?
Syntarsus
Well I bought 4 last year but then realised both of my main walls get hit by the sun so didn't put them up. They're all fairly cheap timber ones. One looks a bit more attactive and is painted (from M&S as I remember) though I now suspect the floor space is too small. I finally put them...

Heat proof nest boxes
Syntarsus
I'm sure there must be lots of people with house walls that get baked either am, pm or all day and thus are not good positions for putting nest boxes. Having thought about this somewhat frustratedly I've recently been wondering if anyone has made nesting boxes suitable for such positions....

Re: Nesting box location
IanH
A north facing box should be a desirable direction for a nesting bird however it sometimes takes them a while to move in. Two years may seem like a long time to wait but sometimes you often have to wait much longer until they find them! The flip side to that is that some birds move in literally minutes...
