Thats lovely to see, you have such a beautiful pond, wonderful ,you must have lots of frogs
this year as well :)
Wow, that's wonderful. What a beautiful paradise you have created for the wildlife, I love this thread :-)
The truth is I'm mad. We are all mad and many are too mad to know the truth.
Thank you for your nice comments. It really is quite a small pond in a fairly ordinary front garden and really do-able by anyone. There wasn't even a lot of digging to do or earth to move as it is quite shallow. It has given me so much pleasure over the last three years. I really want to encourage others to do the same. Just look at a natural pond and try and try and copy it. No steep sides or flat stone edges .... be patient and let the plants and the wildlife do the rest. The only regular intervention I make is to remove dandelion flowers and skim the blossom, leaves and duck weed off the surface. I have to admit to removing quite a few snails early on as they looked like they would eat all the plants. I think the population is about right now.
Spring Flowers around the edge of the pond
More Damselflies emerging today.
From the markings on the thorax I would say this is a Large red damselfly Pyrrhosoma nymphula ....but it could be a Small red damselfly Ceriagiron tenellum. Please help if you know :-)
Naturalised Ragged Robin
Last year I grew some Ragged Robin plants from seed and planted them in the bog area. This year some have come up in the wet mossy area around the edge of the the pond so it looks like they will naturalise.
.....and in the bog, Lady's Smock :-)
They look fantastic Frog Prince the Damsels are cracking.
Love the damsels! No idea which they are though. Your wild flowers are so attractive, the pond looks so natural and I like the way you've put the rocks, there must be a whole city of little beasties in there.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.
Fantastic Mr Frog! ( to mis-quote Roald Dahl)
