I've just checked the Nature's Calendar website again to see how our amphibian friends are getting on around the UK. Looks like a few more have spawned already in south west England and south west Wales, Still one lone report from Northern Ireland as well!
It would be interesting to track your first reports on here as well as adding them to the Natures Calendar website so keep an eye out for frog spawn and an ear out for croaking!
My friends pond on the north of the island is full of toads at the moment. I'll check 'my spots' this weekend.
Caroline in Jersey
I've noticed a few reports of frog spawn now that it has turned milder again, I couldn't see anything stirring in the ponds at the Lodge just yet though.
If you do spot any take a picture and share it on here and don't forget to report them to Natures Calendar!
Alive and well and living in Taunton Somerset. Have been watching several pairs in my small pond over the past week and was delighted to find this thismorning
I've got some, it's appeared overnight in our tiny pond! We are in East Herts. Cheers - Rosy
Still none in the pond i've been watching in the midlands although I popped in briefly earlier in the week to see what was occurring over night and found at least 5 pairs of frogs with plenty of croaking going on! It can't be long surely!!!
My frogs have been very busy again - there are now three lots!! :)
The spawn finally appeared on the 20 March and more appeared on the evenings afterwards with 3 obvious clumps, hoping for some rain to keep the pond topped up! Just been watching some newts in the ponds at the Lodge, great entertainment! Anyone found any toad spawn yet (strings not clumps!)
Hi Rosy, I'm also in East Herts (Sawbridgeworth) and we've just started a pond, hoping that some wildlife will arrive in it. Do you have any frogspawn spare that I could come and collect for our pond?
Hi Steph, we have a little bit which appeared this morning - very exciting! Our pond is only tiny, so I'll let you know if we have a surplus. But perhaps the mods could tell us first, if it is OK for frog spawn to be moved from one pond to another?
Hi Rosie and Steph
It was mentioned on the forum the other day you do run the risk of transferring disease from one pond to another but i don't think it's illegal to do so, you can always discuss it between yourselves in private by adding each other to your friends list.
Pleased to hear quite a few people have got Frogspawn now in different parts of the country. I have got another five lots in my pond this appeared after quite a bit of rain and milder temps a couple of weeks ago. so hopefully should have some tadpoles but weather so unsettled and turning colder again next week!!
Great photo of your pond and frogs and all that frogspawn, Frog Prince, Brilliant!!!!
No toad spawn yet though the adults have just started getting 'friendly' in my pond here near Glastonbury, Somerset. We have more frog spawn than ever before, there were at least 50 frogs in the pond one day a fortnight ago. Lots of newts showing as well.
This years frogs were at it again on Valentine's Day. The most frogs I counted at one time was 12. Most spawn has hatched now. Some later stuff is still not hatched and some was obviously killed by being frozen. Have observed local cat running about with a frog in it's mouth ......Grrrrrrrrrrr!
