  • There seems to be an opinion that there are no birds coming into the garden at the moment.

May I say that in my garden outside my kitchen window grows a very large buddlia bush.  I hang feeders from it ranging from several different types of peanut holders ranging from the normal type (one I tend to mix with fat pellets and seeds) to the cage one, a large seed feeder filled with different types of bird seed mix, nyger feeder, fat ball feeder holder that holds about 5 balls.  In the lawn is stuck one of the pole type bird feeders with hooks and from that hangs a seed feeder and a coconut half and a square seed/fat bar in its holder.

I have 3 water troughs in different places which are refilled daily.

I get goldfinches, red polls, robins, wrens, little dunnocks, house sparrows, greater spotted woodpeckers, all sorts of tits, (haven't seen the long tailed tit yet this season) including the marsh tit, a few chaffinches looking around for ground food, (haven't seen the songthrush yet this autumn) blackbirds bathing in the water trough splashing as though there was no tomorrow, little redpolls perching on the side of the water troughs daintily sipping, there are larger birds too, scratching around the base of the tree.  There have been siskins (you can hear them call quite clearly) but the last few days they have not been around.

I certainly have a busy garden!  We are about 500 yards from the woodlands and fields and our garden is nearly 2 acres with an arboretum of trees.

  • I am green with jealousy

  • That's a wonderful collection of birds you have! It sounds like they are very well catered for.

  • Great variety of birds you are seeing. My garden is still fairly quiet at the moment. Probably things will pick up when the cold weather comes.
