It was an early rise this morning 03.30am in an attempt to get to my destination before the birds started to move. I took this picture at around 05.30 just as the sun started to rise. Just thought I would share the experience with you.
The birds didn't disappoint, just two of many species a young male Barn Owl and plenty of Sky Larks making an appearance.
The two photo's of the birds have been enhanced as it was still a bit dark when I took them.

Hi Buzzard,
Sorry if I have missed a thread - how come you are handling the birds?

Brilliant photos Buzzard. Thanks for sharing them. Am I right in thinking you are BTO_Birdman, now using a different name?
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Squirrel, yes you are right I was using that user name but I was requested to change it following a reply I made to one of the posts!!!
Squirrel Brilliant photos Buzzard. Thanks for sharing them. Am I right in thinking you are BTO_Birdman, now using a different name?
Hi Kezmo,
no you haven't missed a thread - we're licenced ringers.
Kezmo Hi Buzzard, Sorry if I have missed a thread - how come you are handling the birds?
Fantastic Buzzard!! Well worth the early rise! The barn owl looks tiny in those hands! How old would it be?
(I wondered what had happened to you as I read a post from you, then it disappeared!)

Thanks for those lovely photographs Buzzard. Great to know there are people like you prepared to go out at that hour and carry out this valuable exercise.
MarJus Fantastic Buzzard!! Well worth the early rise! The barn owl looks tiny in those hands! How old would it be? (I wondered what had happened to you as I read a post from you, then it disappeared!)
Thanks MarJus, The Barn Owl is a Juvenile Male. A bird of this year.
(If you read the post then you know exactly what I had written!, I gave advice following the various laws of the land. The response wasn't my personal views! merely advice that some people didn't agree with.)
Thanks Brenda.
It is a truely rewarding.
Brenda H Thanks for those lovely photographs Buzzard. Great to know there are people like you prepared to go out at that hour and carry out this valuable exercise.
Definitely a valuable exercise. I am amazed that you even located a skylark to ring as I can't remember the last time I saw one. It is good to know that they are still around - even if they are not around in the vicinity of where I live. Wouldn't it be good to see an increase in their numbers....
Hi Squirrel - we get skylarks behind our house and I love to hear them sing, especially as I am a singer myself. We also have them in the fields around the District Hospital here too and it would be very easy to miss an appointment due to just standing and enjoying the skylarks after parking the car!
Buzzard - Skylarks and barn owls are two of my favourite birds so it good to know that they are being looked after so well. I love the pics and the new name!!
There is something new to learn everyday...

I must admit the Barn Owl is up there on my favourite list.
As Squirrel mentioned with regards to locating a Skylark, I don't know if you are aware but they are now on the Red List indicating a increasing level of conservation concern.
The Barn Owl is in the Amber list.
If anyone wants to check the list for other species then here's the link!

Hi Buzzard
It's not until you see the lists like that, where there are birds you take for granted being in the real danger zone and then others on there that I may never ever get the chance to see - such a shame.
Hi Kezmo
You are so right!
I hope some of the members and visitors of this forum have a look at the list!!!!
