  • Tipping down with rain most of the day and the sparrows were almost constantly in the garden taking their favourite suet pellets.

My one and only sparrow fledgling so far -still "begging" but can get in the gaurdian feeder now

    With Mum

A fed up looking  wet magpie!

    Best wishes - Jayne

  • You just have to feel sorry for the birds in the rain although it hasn't been too bad up here for the last few days. It's even been sunny from time to time!

Wonderful photos Jayne, especially the baby sparrow, and yes the magpie looks really pee'd off!!

  • Thanks Linda- are you getting more fledgling sparrows at the moment? The sparrows have been back and forth for weeks for mealworms and suet pellets, but this is the only one I've seen (been fledged about 2 weeks now). I do hope they get more than 1 after all their hard work  (and my empty purse)!!

  • Lovely photos of the little 'un Jayne.  And lol, the Magpie looks kinda cute really !!

The truth is I'm mad. We are all mad and many are too mad to know the truth.

  • Hi Jayne,

No, no more sparrow babies yet. I had one single one about 3 weeks ago, then the one I posted the other day, but no others. The adults are all here, after mealworms and suet pellets plus some nibbles at the fat balls. They do seem to be taking food away. I'm hoping this is to nests and not to fledglings in someone else's garden! LOL.

  • Lovely photos Jayne - poor little things - I love the one of the soggy magpie.  Strangely enough the tree sparrows outnumber the house sparrows in my garden this year (I didn't have any tree sparrows last year) and there are quite a few fledglings amongst them.  We have a few house sparrows hopping around but none that look like chicks.
