TJ the Starling ones are great, I have them attack the suet blocks too but I'm glad as they've only been coming in about the last couple of weeks or so after nearly a year of barely seeing any, but, I'm getting through 3 suet blocks a day as I'm like you and have blackbirds eating them too LOL !!
Hi TeeJay ,just fantastic shots!!! well done!! ,and thanks for sharing them with us I think they are all good photo's
Great shots and it just goes to prove that birds are not as "bird brained" as common rumour would have it. They will have your suet whether you want them to or not(-:)
Excellent pics of determined and hungry birds. Are the last 2 shots of a juvenille Starling or is that just the way the light is in the pics, just wondered because if it is then you have already lost the battle of wills with the lid for next year as the adult has already taught it how to work around that obstacle. Just an observation of bird behaviour really.
Yes, Veggie, it's a juvenile. It's amazing how fast they learn. Initially they are very clumsy hanging on with much wing flapping. All my adaptation does is to slow them down a bit so that they have to work harder to get at the food. Other wise they just stand on the top of the wire basket pecking away.
I've got three juvenile Magpies in the garden all up to all sorts of mischief. They are into everything including trying to tweak the tails of visiting parakeets.
They obviously have been watching the other birds feeding from my fatblock and have been very quick to learn the technique. Not the greatest photos cos they caught me by surprise and the window was none too clean.
Brilliant TJ it's amazing how they learn from each other, great photos
Great photos, it is just amazing what they will get up to next.
Just love these TJ.
We have a bird table with the leg supports at about 60 degree angle. We hang fat ball holders off the table. The Magpies stand on the support to get at these and I just can't help laughing watching slowly slid while they try to eat. The also try to jump just like your pictures above.
Superb set of pics. Amazing to see just how agile and resourceful they are.
