2 summers ago a few wild orchids appeared in our lawn. We left the area uncut and got a much bigger display last year. It looks as if there are going to be even more this summer. But i don't know whether to treat this area as a spring or summer meadow - can anyone advise when is the best time to cut the grass if at all?
Welcome to Communities. Dependent on what type of orchid you have in your lawn, I would be tempted, given that most orchids flower from June to August, to leave the grass until late August/ September time and sit back and enjoy these beautiful plants, insects will also benefit from this.Claire
They must look very pretty and well done you for not cutting the lawn at the wrong time and killing them.
We would love to see a photo of them if you can manage to take one and upload it onto here.
(You need a fairly small file size and you use the green film strip icon when you have your Jpeg to upload)
