In defence of a suet cake
The chap on the top has his claws sunk in the other one's face.
Very dramatic. Excellent shots.
Is that Sunshine i can see...cracking photos love the colours
I have seen many a starling squabble, and they last for brief moments, but hadn't seen such a vicious one as this. It must be the constant need for food at the moment.
I think we had 2 minutes of sunshine today. Mostly hail bouncing off the ground, a howling wind and driving rain when it wasn't hailing.
Cor Linda, that's dramatic stuff. Just shows you don't have to watch telly for a bit of violence. I've noticed that the feeding frenzy is reaching its peak at the moment with all the birds. Great captures.
My garden has been like an over full aviary recently. Starlings, jackdaws and sparrows everywhere. They are all desperate for food.
Truly excellent captures Linda. Quite a scrap going on there
Excellent shots - I must try some suet cake if its worth that kind of fighting for(-:)
Great shots Linda, they are really showing their colours in that light, is it sunlight as I have forgetten what it looks like?
Thanks Bob and Shane.
It doesn't matter whether the suet is a cake, a tub, pellets or balls - just as long as it's suet (or mealworms) as far as starlings are concerned at the moment!!!
Just a few minutes of sun, that's all we got.
Great photos - they really catch the starling squabble.
I'm finding the same thing - the food is vanishing so quickly, I'm going to have to re-order seed before the end of the month which I really can't afford. The starlings are desperate and seven jackdaws are copying the woodpigeons and sticking their heads through the sanctuary cages to hoover up the fallen seed. It's even more frantic when it rains and there's no insects around.
I went out to see my grandchildren yesterday for nine hours and the ground feeders were all empty except for those tiny red seeds no bird eats here.
I find the same here - nothing eats those little red seeds, not even pigeons.
It is expensive this time of year, but the summer is quieter so we can all rest our purses then!
Wow, fab pics, what drama!
