Squirrel-Proof Feeder
Rudy Diddley
Most devices seem to concentrate on a situation that involves the squirrel being able to get at the feeder. Squirrels can actually destroy many things so that route has problems. Putting other food out for squirrels doesn't lure them away. I found a way to offer food to birds - mostly small birds...

The Birds in our Garden
ValerieTams
Our garden’s very busy, the birds fly to and fro, we don’t know where they come from and we don’t know where they go . The blue tits come in little groups and eat up all the seeds, the dunnocks and the blackbirds are rooting through the weeds. The great tits are on the feeders...

cold weather bringing the birds back
BirdFeederUK
After a really quiet spell my garden has finally had some visitors today with the drop in temperature. I had my very first Jay visit the garden... along with the return of dunnocks, blue tits doves and blackbirds. Some finches now would be perfect! This is my first winter feeding birds so i'm...

jays in garden
margot
We have three jays making regular visits to pick up peanuts from a tray on the ground app. 4ft from our conservatory. There only ever two at a time and the third sits in a tree waiting for his turn. Occasionally they have to run the gauntlet of a squirrel also eating from the same tray - the squirrel...

Will Goldfinches use a Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder?
CrazyDaizy
Hia Folks I was loving all the Goldfinches around my Bird Feeders, they seem to love Sunflower hearts. Then I noticed a Squirrel helping himself, which scared the Goldfinches away. So I've put the Sunflower hearts into a Squirrel Proof bird feeder, and so far no Goldfinches *sob* Will...

Should I be seeing siskins?
lillybet
Hello. I live in West Yorkshire and yesterday, I saw a female, and I presume, young siskin. I've never spotted these in my garden before and I was just wondering if it was usual for them to around my area this time of the year.

Seed Feeders
Dotty
I replaced some battered old nyjer seed feeders last November with some new ones from the RSPB. I used to have frequent visits from several pairs of goldfinches but since I've put up the new feeders none have visited. I've added trays to the new boxes - pigeons feed off the scraps! Any ideas...

Where have my birds gone?
AnneLancashire
We've a number of feeders in the front and back gardens - but for the last few months the feeders in the back garden are not being used (apart from the niger feeders). Can anyone explain why this is? We keep cleaning out the feeders and re-filling them but the various tits and sparrows (that have...

Re: Attracting Garden Birds!

Hello Mick welcome to the forum, i am new to it to and trying to learn! Sounds like you are doing the right thing, I go for the suet/seed mix and hang them from plastic cups with several holes cut out, I also have a bird table and three different feeders with mixed seed, nuts and niger seeds which the...

Unknown small bird
hartrockets
Hi all, these birds have arrived in my garden over the last few days and I have never seen them before, I first thought they could be baby tits but they are the same size as the regular Blue Tits that visit the garden. They also seem to have much longer tails, could they be Long Tailed Tits...

HI all, thanks for all your great comments, today the weather is again wet and horrible, but I thought I would try out my old Casio EX-F1 camera as that also does high speed video at slightly higher quality and faster speed (300fps instead of 240fps) here is todays video of a blue tit on the...

Re: Does anyone have a neighbour feeding the garden birds?
Gardenfairy
Regarding the absence of birds being due to cats, this could be another mis-conception. We have two cats (one too old to hunt), and there are perhaps another four in the immediate locality, who only seem to visit when ours are locked in at night. We have hundreds of birds visiting our garden daily, where...
