Bit of a story to go with this one...
The coal tits would go in the greenhouse after all the insects that were attracted inside. Usually they knew to fly out through the door, but for whatever reason this little fella didn't seem to know how to get back out again. There was another coal tit in there that flew straight out through the door but I guess this one never noticed how he got out!
It was getting hot inside the greenhouse and the coal tit looked as if he was starting to get very stressed out so I went inside to see if I could coax him out the door but he just kept trying to fly through the back of the greenhouse. He clung onto where the glass joined and I picked up a plantpot moving it slowly towards him. He hopped onto the rim of the plantpot and sat there perfectly calm as I carried him outside on the pot. Once outside the greenhouse, he stayed sitting on the plantpot until I moved him round the greenhouse to the feeders. At this point, he seemed to realise he was outside and flew off into the trees.
Good story, KatTai, & glad it had a happy ending. Always find it hard to know what to do for the best when you see an injured or distressed bird, as feel that they get even more stressed by our intervention.
Hi Lindybird, it was difficult to figure out what to do because at the time I thought if i went into the greenhouse the bird would have just panicked and knocked itself out or something but he was perfectly calm. It was amazing to be so close to him just sitting there. I was a bit concerned about all the cobwebs around his tail and feet though, hopefully he managed to get rid of it all. I've never had a bird not know how to get back out since, in fact a few of the coal tits keep caches of food in there!
Lovely picture again! Glad to know this one was also ok!!
