I have known that birds are much more intelligent than many people give them credit for, sparrows using ants as a tool to preen themselves with is not an uncommon task, but I was amazed to see that they have their own dentists too now.
I don't like dentists, but great photo.
That is so funny! They need huge mouths to make room for all the food they eat!
Starling babies are just so demanding. Lovely picture
Thanks all. It is currently my favourite picture, and one that I have cropped and resized to fit both my desktop PC screen, and my laptop too. Still waiting to get a really nice shot of some sparrows and missed out on what would have been an absolute beauty the other day, all because I couldn't get my camera quick enough.
What a beautiful picture. I love the baby starling in the background. Definently on a mission.
Thanks Lolly. The starling on a mission was about to join a bunch of other juveniles that were being fed just out of the shot. Would you believe that there were 5 all waiting to be fed from one adult. I am only guessing, but think that there must have been a lawn party going on because the juvenile out numbered the adults by at least 3-1. Sometimes there are so many in the garden that it is just impossible to count them, but I am still looking forward to the "Make Your Nature Count" betweem 4th and 12th June.
That's lovely, a true "Ahhhh" photo! :-)
My dad always called them 'stoogies' for some reason but oh they are the greediet bird around.
Thanks Kerry, and as Lady so rightly points out, they sure are the greediest of birds it seems, bottomless stomaches.... geez I thought I could eat!!!!
