We don't mind if we get a mouthful off other birds.

Life can be tough when you're a small bird - like us puffins - competing for fish among flocks of hungry guillemots and razorbills. That's why our colourful beaks aren't just there to look pretty.

With spines inside our beaks that can hold up to 60 sandeels at a time, we can hunt without dropping the fish we've already caught.

For your chance to see the best beaks in the business, join an RSPB boat tour on the beautiful Firth of Forth.

But be prepared for company – skuas, red-throated divers, seals and dolphins also patrol the seas here in search of food.

These cruises are extremely popular and places go quickly. To avoid disappointment booking is essential. The prices for cruises in June and July are £15 for adults (£14 for RSPB members), £7 for children. Family tickets (2 adults, 2 children) are £38.

When can you see us?

Cruises depart at 9am on Sunday 9 June, 6.30pm on Wednesday 19 June, 9am on Saturday 29 June and 6.30pm on Wednesday 10 July.

We are also running a special one off cruise from North Berwick Harbour on Wednesday 29th May which will go out to Bass Rock, The Lamb, Craigleith and possibly Fidra.
Ticket prices for this one off trip are £20 for adults (£18 for RSPB members) and £10 for children.

All cruises have full commentary, plus friendly staff and volunteers on hand to answer your questions and make sure you see plenty of wildlife. Please contact Maid of the Forth for further details (see below).

What's at the site?

A small bar on board will be selling hot and cold drinks, plus basic snacks. There are toilets on board the Maid of the Forth, and indoor and outdoor seating.

How to find us

All cruises depart from Hawes Pier, South Queensferry, Edinburgh.

Hawes Pier is directly opposite the famous Hawes Inn (featured in Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Kidnapped') in South Queensferry, to the west of Edinburgh in the shadow of the Forth Bridge.
