Unfortunately, a parasite called trichomoniasis has affected some of the birds at the feeding station. Following our advice, the Arboretum has removed all food from the feeding area for October and November, to try and prevent the spread of the parasite.

This has led us to close the project earlier than planned - our final day will be 25 October. Until then, we still have friendly staff and volunteers onsite in the Education centre with children's activities, educational toys and a chance to learn all about the birds of Westonbirt and our work.

Westonbirt Arboretum is known worldwide for its unique collection of trees and shrubs, but did you know that more than 40 species of bird have been seen among the leafy canopies?

It can be hard to see birds high up in the canopy, so a feeding station has been set up to tempt them down from the trees.

With our help, now's your chance to meet these fascinating birds and learn more about Westonbirt's hidden inhabitants!

Friendly staff will be on hand in the Education centre, with its impressive one-way mirrored bird feeding room, to show off these magnificent birds.

There is no charge for the project itself, although normal arboretum charges apply. These are variable and depend on the date of visit.

When can you see us?

Friendly staff will be on hand in the Education centre each Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 am-4 pm.

What's at the site?

The impressive one-way mirrored bird feeding room is located in the Education centre.

Refreshments are available in the Maples restaurant and Arboretum cafe located adjacent to the Forest Shop. Public toilets are located next to the Visitor services.

Westonbirt Arboretum has excellent facilities for disabled visitors, with two toilets available on site (one is next to The Great Oak Hall, the other is next to The Maples restaurant), parking spaces only a few steps away from the main facilities, and scooters and wheelchairs that can be hired, free of charge, from the visitor services building next to the Great Oak Hall. Due to a limited number, scooters/wheelchaires must be booked in advance by calling 01666 881218.

All the hard paths are accessible to wheelchair and electric buggy users and there are 17 miles of these throughout the arboretum. Trails off the paths can be unsuitable in wet conditions due to mud, and due to the terrain we do not advise the use of three wheel electric scooters.

How to find us

Westonbirt, The National Arboretum is situated on the A433 approximately three miles south east of Tetbury. Look out for the brown signs.

The Education centre's bird feeding room is signposted from the Forest shop, and found behind the children's play area.

What should I bring?

Outdoor clothing recommended. On a nice day, shorts and sandals would be fine!
