Important notice

Due to the replacement of Ruthven bridge over the River Spey, between the end of July and mid-September there will be no access to RSPB Insh Marshes directly from Kingussie. During this period, all visitors to the reserve will need to access the reserve either via Kincraig (B9152 - follow signs from the village centre) or via Feshiebridge (B970). Contact the reserve office if you require further information.

Top things to do in Spring

  1. Watch and listen to waders singing and displaying
  2. Look for returning ospreys over the loch and river
  3. Follow one of the trails through woodland full of fresh green leaf burst and birdsong

Top things to do in Summer

  1. Look for butterflies and dragonflies along the trails
  2. Have a picnic overlooking the Tromie River then wander through the orchid meadow
  3. Canoe down the River Spey looking for goldeneye ducklings

Top things to do in Autumn

  1. Feast your eyes on the stunning autumn colours of aspen and birch
  2. Look for flocks of migrating thrushes
  3. Watch the arrival of whooper swans and greylag geese from Iceland

Top things to do in Winter

  1. Be uplifted by snowy mountain scenery
  2. Experience the extensive flooded marshes
  3. Scan the marshes for hunting birds of prey
