What a fantastic place! We were lucky enough to witness a kingfisher flying to and from the nest in the artificial sand bank - obviously feeding newly-hatched chicks. Another highlight for me was watching a water vole happily foraging about in the water. A truly amazing day out - we will definitely be returning for further visits!

First time to Rye Meads and what a WONDERFUL day out! Watching birds here and there, with friendly staff and people who can tell you alot! We were even lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a KINGFISHER!!! Beautiful colours! A really great place to go, off again next week! It was beautiful!

Have just returned to bird watching and rejoined the RSPB. What a wonderful reserve with very helpful and nice people. Seen birds that I have not previously seen before like whitethroat and reed wabler. I also attended the bat walk, what a night!

I love Rye Meads - it's so unexpected. A beautiful area in the middle of Hertfordshire. The kingfishers are amazing and I loved the terns, especially in the summer when the chicks all hatched!!

Today was my first visit to Rye Meads and have always wanted to see a kingfisher. I was lucky enough to observe two of them for about half and hour - a wonderful experience! The reserve is beautiful, a truly magical place and very relaxing to walk around. I'll be returning very soon!

We first visited Rye Meads last September for a bat walk/talk, which was excellent. The reserve is a lovely habitat for lots of wildlife - Brimstone and Peacock butterflies, grebes (little and crested) and terns to name a few. Oh, and we saw kingfishers too.

I loved Rye Meads the first time I visited. Since then, a super new visitor centre with toilets and picnic tables has been built, and everyone is really friendly. It's a great place for all the family; it’s a lovely place to have a walk and enjoy wildlife, great for everyone - I enjoyed visiting so much I began volunteering!

Marion Moss

Never have I seen so many common terns, all of them plunging into the water, watched from the comfort of a hide. Also was my first time seeing little egrets in the wild.
