About South Stack Cliffs

Ellins Tower at the RSPB South Stack cliffs nature reserve, Anglesey

Image: Chris Gomersall

Enjoy a close-up view onto a wonderful cliff-side nesting colony, with binoculars and telescopes provided. You'll be able to watch guillemots, razorbills and puffins all raising their young, while live television pictures give you an even closer view of the nests! Rare choughs can also be seen on the reserve.

In spring and summer, the heathland becomes a riot of colour. Look closely and you may see a basking adder, while out to sea there may be porpoises and dolphins.

Opening times

The RSPB reserve is open all year-round. The Visitor Centre, with shop and cafe, is open from 10 am to 5 pm daily (except Christmas Day), and Ellin's Tower Seabird Centre is open from 10 am to 5 pm from Easter to September.

Entrance charges

Free, but donations to help us continue our work here are welcome.

If you are new to birdwatching...

This reserve is good for birdwatching in spring and summer only.

Information for families

There are interactive materials available in Ellin's Tower with wonderful live images and telescopes and binoculars for you to use. We can also give you some Wildsquare bingo sheets to help your family discover nature on the reserve. We always plan family-friendly events with activities tailored for children.

Information for dog owners

Dogs are welcome on the reserve and in Ellin's Tower, but aren't allowed inside the cafe for hygiene reasons. Please keep your dog on a lead and stick to the paths. Drinking water is provided for dogs in bowls at the doors of the Visitor Centre and Ellin's Tower.
