Seaford kittiwakes
The Seaford kittiwake colony appears to have had a very successful breeding season, with about 800 pairs nesting on the cliffs at Splash Point. After the disaster of last year, when over 200 young birds died during the hot weather, the birds seem much happier with the conditions. The first young birds fledged the nest on Thursday 19th, with more taking to the air each day. The RSPB has an Aren't Birds Brilliant! event there, with binoculars and telescopes available to get close up views of the birds. The watchpoint is manned from 10 am to 5 pm daily (weather permitting) until Sunday 5th August. Apart from the kittiwakes, there are 4 pairs of fulmars, and two of these have each got a small chick. Come along and enjoy the spectacle.
