On Thursday 9th November 18 members turned out for a 3 hour walk in the Cudham area. The weather was cloudy at first but after about 1 hour the sun broke through and it became
quite warm. It was mild for this time of year. We started the walk with a good view of robin, blackbird, blue tit, chaffinch, carrion crow, starling and greenfinch. We had a glimpse of a goldcrest in the church grounds but we were pleased to see about 30 skylarks in the field behind the church. In fact we saw a good number of skylark all the way round the walk.
At Mace farm we saw several house sparrows and a yellowhammer flew past. A buzzard was seen being mobbed by crows. Buzzards are now being seen regularly all over the borough.
At the half way stage of the walk we split into two groups. One group retuned to the car by the route we had come. This group had a good view of a male yellowhammer and also saw a falconer flying two Harris hawks. The other group continued the circular walk and had good views of redwing song and mistle thrush.
In all 37 species of birds were seen.
