Cathedral peregrines nest failure
In May it was discovered that two eggs had been laid in a turret on Bell Harry Tower this spring. However, the female did not appear to be spending much time incubating, and on 26th June the site was inspected by someone licensed to disturb this schedule one protected species, and the nest was found to be empty. It is quite common for raptors to be unsuccessful in their early breeding attempts, but the experience gained this year means that they are far more likely to get it right in 2009, when we can once more hope that young peregrines will be flying around Canterbury cathedral.
