Places to see birds

Oare Marshes

This Kent Wildlife Trust reserve (67 hectares, 170 acres) on the Swale Estuary packs a lot of excitement into quite a small area. Particularly during the periods of spring and autumn passage, large flocks of waders roost in the shallow pools, including bar-tailed and black-tailed godwits, greenshank, spotted redshank, dunlin, oystercatcher and ruff. From autumn to spring look out for hen harrier, bittern, short-eared owl, snow bunting and twite.

There is a circular trail, two hides and a small visitor centre open at weekends. Access is from Oare village (follow sign for Harty Ferry).
