Field Trip to Ramsey Island

Sunday, 15 June 2008
The sea was like a mill pond for the 10minute boat ride to Ramsey from St Justinians. Most of the group took the anticlockwise circuit while a few went clockwise. All had marvellous views of Chough very near on the closely sheep cropped grass. There were guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and fulmar on the sea or the cliffs. Wheatear galore were feeding young. There also lesser and greater blackbacked gulls on the lookout over the nesting lapwings. The resident peregrine was seen as were "commuting" sparrowhawk and kestrel.
Marine life was seen in the form of a porpoise with calf in the sound and seals in the bays. Shag were seen from the boat on the way back and a pair of whitethroat were in a dock plant by the car park.
