Brandon Marsh Wildlife Trust Reserve - Sunday September 28th

Sunday, 28 September 2008
Brandon Marsh is the headquarters of Warwickshire wild life trust and comprises nearly 250 acres of pools, reedbeds, marsh and woodland habitat. Walking down the path from the splendid visitor centre we were met by a dozen or so siskins in the alder trees. Coots were aplenty on the pools. A spectacular site was the sheer number of snipe - at least 40 birds in three groups, all easily visible. One blacktailed godwit was eagerly sought after by local birders and we just missed a spotted redshank. Three common terns passed over on migration. On the islands and ponds were amongst others, lapwings, shovelers, wigeon, mallard, tufted duck, teal and gadwall. In the air kestrel and buzzard, goldfinch and longtailed tit and in the reeds sedge and reed warblers. Several in the group saw 2 kingfishers. A cup of tea in the visitor centre finished off a delightful day.
