A slide show entitled " A celebration of Birds" by Peter Holden. We are delighted to welcome Peter who is an acclaimed speaker on bird subjects. This will be a highly personal reflection of the work of the RSPB, highlighting its Film Unit with clips from the archive past and present.

Bird Walk at RSPB Rye Meads Nature Reserve

Location: Meet in the car park. Take A414 from Chelmsford and head west past Harlow. Leave A414 at Stanstead Abbots junction and after turning left take the next right. This is a toll road with a toll of 50p before the reserve (grid reference 385,105 on Landranger OS Map 166).

This is another new place for us with a group looking for kingfisher, wintering wildfowl and possibly bittern. Walking boots not necessary but warm clothing recommended. Walk is flat and suitable for all ages.

A Moroccan Experience.

A slide show given by Richard Pople. This diverse country provides the opportunity to enjoy exciting and rare birds, including larks, wheatears and the endangered bald ibis. All brought together by this widely travelled ornithologist.

Bird Walk at Stow Maries Aerodrome.

Location: Stowe Maries Aerodrome. Take B1018 south from Maldon heading towards Cold Norton and Latchingdon. Go past the turning to Purleigh and at the roundabout turn right towards Cold Norton. Once in Cold Norton turn right towards Cock Clarks and the aerodrome is marked on the left after about a mile. Meet in the car park beyond Flambirds Farm(grid reference 819,001 on Landranger OS MAP 168).

This will be a gentle walk around this First World War airfield that is in the process of being restored. We will be looking for early migrants. Walking boots may be appropriate. Walk is flattish and suitable for all ages.

The RSPB Reserves of North Kent.

A talk given by Gordon Allison. We have not ventured into North Kent before so who better to talk about this wonderful area than Gordon Allison, the manager of the Elmley Marshes Reserve. He will tell us about their history and the many birds encountered there.

Bird Walk at Fowlmere Nature Reserve

Location: Fowlmere Nature Reserve. Meet in the car park. Leave M11 at junction 10 and head west along the A505. Turn right where signposted to Fowlmere. Travel through the village and out the other side towards Shepreth. The nature reserve is signposted (grid reference 406,453 on Landranger OS MAP 154).

A walk around this lovely reserve will include looking for returning migrants including grasshopper warbler, blackcap, garden warbler and hobby. Walking boots recommended. Walk is suitable for all ages.
