Bird Walk at Old Hall Marshes on 11th December 2011.

Sunday, 11 December 2011

A group of eight hardy souls (or idiots) braved the cold and damp weather for an afternoon walk around RSPB Old Halll Marshes Reserve.
Rain had been forecast but fortunately held off so we were able to walk along the sea wall beside the Salcott channel and then do the short walk back to the car park. The wind was quite strong and cold so we decided not to walk along the sea wall on the way back. We had hoped to see some raptors going into their afternoon roost but the weather prevented too many birds from flying.

We did however manage to see the following birds:
Little Grebe
Cormorant
Little Egret
Grey Heron
Greylag Goose
Canada Goose
Brent Goose
Red breasted goose (after much hunting and lots of patience - well done Max)
Shelduck
Teal
Mallard
Pintail
Shoveler
Pochard
Tufted Duck
Goldeneye
Marsh Harrier
Kestrel
Peregrine Falcon
Golden Plover
Grey Plover
Lapwing
Dunlin
Black-tailed Godwit
Curlew
Redshank
Turnstone
Black-head Gull
Lesser Black-backed Gull
Herring Gull
Wood Pigeon
Green Woodpecker
Pied Wagtail
Blackbird
Fieldfare
Long-tailed Tit
Magpie
