Double celebration as Chester RSPB group gains award

Double celebration as Chester RSPB group gains award

During its 20th anniversary year, Chester RSPB Group is celebrating the award of grant funding from Awards For All to support a new Education Outreach project.

The grant is being used to buy a laptop, data projector and other equipment to enable us to make a series of presentations to local societies, older schoolchildren and other community groups on birds and conservation, including advice on how to make gardens and other habitats more friendly for birds.

The talks will be given by members of the group, who are all volunteers. Our target is to cover Chester and the surrounding area, taking in urban and rural groups, e.g. local gardening clubs, nursing homes and church groups.

We hope that these talks will inspire more people to take part in simple conservation activities in their gardens, like putting out food and planting shrubs that provide food and cover for birds and other wildlife, or making bird tables and nest boxes or digging a garden pond. We also hope to encourage more people to consider joining our group as volunteers, to assist in our fundraising and conservation work.

In summary, we hope this project will help to increase people's knowledge and care of birds and other wildlife. This should also improve people's quality of life by helping to increase awareness and enjoyment of the behaviour of the birds around them, thereby encouraging people to spend more time outdoors.

Any group or school who would like to receive a talk or film show on birds and conservation should contact Roger Nutter, on 01829 782237. We also give less formal talks to younger schoolchildren.
