Female great tit

Conservation Work at Linacre Reservoirs

Our partnership with Derbyshire County Council's Countryside Service continued throughout 2007 into 2008. We continued to monitor the birdlife around the reservoirs with our monthly walks, the results of which were also fed back into the BTO's Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS). The nest boxes were maintained over the winter period and our monitoring of breeding success began again in April 2008.
A total of 10 boxes have been used by blue and great tits, and, for the first time, a female Pied Flycatcher!
She has raised four chicks to the point of fledging, which should happen any day now.
A new event this year was a joint Dawn Chorus Walk with DCC in May. This was a great success with 17 people attending, none of whom were group members.
