Linacre Reservoirs

Male green woodpecker feeding on ground

A set of three reservoirs situated 5km west of Chesterfield (map ref. SK3373) and surrounded by a mixture of mature deciduous and coniferous woodland. The site is owned by Severn Trent Water and the woodland is managed by Derbyshire County Council's ranger service. The site holds a range of common woodland birds and a few more unusual species such as Spotted and Pied Flycatchers, all three woodpecker species and, occasionally, Common Crossbill. The reservoirs hold breeding Little Grebe, Mandarin Duck, Coot, Moorhen and Mallard. Winter visitors include Goosander, Pochard, Tufted Duck and winter thrushes. Access is free and open all year and can be gained from the B6050. Toilets are available on site.
