Padley Gorge

A superb oak woodland and moorland site with free, open access throughout the year that is located 15 km north west of Chesterfield on the National Trust's Longshaw Estate (map ref. SK2578). The main interest is during the spring and early summer months when visiting bird watchers can expect to see Pied and Spotted Flycatcher, Redstart, Wood Warbler, all three Woodpecker species, Tree Pipit, Stonechat, Whinchat, Wheatear and Ring Ouzel. Access can be gained from the train station at Grindleford or from the B6521. Care should be taken at this site as the paths are very steep and uneven and can be slippery. No facilities on site.
