Nightjar walk at Clumber Park

Nightjar on ground among heather

Friday, 20 June 2008

25 people attended our annual Nightjar Walk around the grounds of Clumber Park. We started in the area around the Chapel and walked around the lake where we saw a range of common waterbirds, including a pair of Mute Swans, complete with 5 cygnets and several Gadwall. Two new species for this site were also seen here, when Terry found a pair of Spotted Flycatchers and we were treated to a brief fly past by a Hobby!
The walk crossed over to another area of the park at about 9.30pm, where we managed to see the "stars of the show" when both Woodcock and Nightjars put on a great display , calling and flying over our heads!
