Day trip to Rutland Water

Saturday, 21 July 2007
An excellent trip attended by 12 people. Highlight was the pair of Ospreys feeding their young on the nest watched from the Shallow Water Hide on the Lyndon reserve. One of the young ospreys was seen trying out its wings and actually lifting off the nest, but it came back down again, so couldn't be counted as fledging. Other great views included several singing Turtle Doves, 7 over-flying Whimbrel, reeling Grasshopper Warbler, Hobby and a stunning adult Yellow legged Gull. Added to a considerable list of commoner species we managed a grand total of 56 species.
