Boat trip with RSPB South Lincs Group

Saturday, 28 June 2008

After the success of last October's boat trip we decided to make a return trip, but at a different time of year and we weren't disappointed. One of the first species to be seen as we made our way up the River Whitham was Common Sandpiper, a species on its return migration. Other returning waders included Bar and Black tailed Godwit, Curlew (over 150!) Ringed Plover and Lapwing. A single Brent Goose was an unusual sight at this time of year, as was the lone Pink footed Goose. More expected were the summer migrants such as Sand Martin, Swallow and "swallows of the sea", Common, Sandwich and two Roseate Terns!! There weren't too many birds of prey, but we did manage two Marsh Harriers and a beautifully perched Hobby. One final highlight for everyone on board were the numerous Common Seals, many with young. 25 attendees and 53 species of birds.
