Another Visit to Old Moor

Tree sparrow on twig

Sunday, 25 November 2007

After some initial concerns about numbers, thirty two members and friends signed up for this coach trip, ensuring that we covered our costs with a little to spare.

A relatively short journey saw the party arrive at 10.15 a.m., to be greeted with sightings of tree sparrow and goldfinch outside the visitors' centre.

Extensions made recently to pathways were well-received as they allowed improved access to different parts of the reserve and greatly enhanced bird-watching opportunities- including the sighting of a green sandpiper.

Large flocks of lapwing and golden plover provided spectacular viewing as they flew restlessly to and fro over the reserve. Ducks were no longer in eclipse mode and so were easier to identify than a couple of months ago. Sighting of kingfisher led us to conclude that this particular bird has had a good year.

An enjoyable and productive outing and one we will certainly repeat in the near future.
Special thanks to Joan, who agreed to stand in as leader on this occasion.
