Children birdwatching

Make a bird box for your favourite bird on Valentine's Day

There will be lots of activities for children and their families to take part in. You can study owl pellets (find out what local owls eat for dinner), see wild birds in the hands of trained bird ringers, make badges and crafts, have your face painted like a tiger or a butterfly, play wildlife games, and explore the nature trail and look for clues.

To mark Valentine's Day, children can also make a special nestbox for their garden birds that they can decorate with hearts.

Putting a nestbox up in your garden is a great way to help those birds that struggle to find a safe place to nest in the spring, and for roosting in during the winter months.

All children will get a free goody bag to take home.

Janet Matthews from the RSPB in Coventry said: "Our Wildlife Fun event has everything families need to have a wonderful time together, relaxing and learning lots about birds and other wildlife. And, if you've never built a nestbox before, why not come along and give that a go?"

The event is free of charge and takes place at Coundon Court School & Community College, Northbrook Road, Coundon, Coventry, CV6 2AJ.
